2 Scope, purpose and legal basis of the processing of personal data

2.1 Purpose of the collection of personal data 

We collect and use your personal data for the following purposes:

Creation of a user profile for the use of the Lufthansa Group Alumni Platform.

Provision of information about Lufthansa Group as well as special alumni offers on the platform (e.g. invitation to events, use of alumni benefits, networking with other alumni), whereby the information is exclusively related to the Lufthansa Alumni Network and may also take the form of a newsletter dispatch by e-mail. The profile information you provide is visible for the other members of the network so that you can connect and network based on that information.

2.2 Categories of Personal Data and Purpose

In order to provide the above-mentioned services, we collect personal data from you as a user in the following categories: 

  1. Personal data: First name/last name and email address for the creation of a personal account and for communication, current location for regional groups/events
  2. Information on work experience: Current position or last position in Lufthansa Group with the purpose of creating a user profile and tailor our Alumni offers to individual needs
  3. Information on language and other knowledge and skills: Optional, with the purpose of creating a user profile in order to be able to tailor our Alumni offers to individual needs
  4. Activities on the platform: Voluntary visible engagement of users on the platform, e.g. publishing articles, comments on articles, registration for events.

For the processing of your personal data mentioned under point 2.2 as well as for the visibility of your profile within the network, you give your consent according to 6 para. 1 a DSGVO by registering on the platform. We hereby inform you that you can revoke this consent at any time. To do so, please simply delete your account yourself or contact alumni.relations@dlh.de if you have any problems with the deletion.
 
Please note that the consent you revoke only has effect for the future and has no influence on the lawfulness of the processing in the past. In some cases, despite your revocation, we are entitled to continue processing your personal data on another legal basis - such as for the performance of a contract.

2.3 Use of cookies

Our website uses cookies.
A cookie is a small text file that a web portal leaves on the computer system (computer, tablet computer or smartphone) of the user:s when they visit it. With the help of cookies, we would like to increase the comfort and quality of using our site, for example, by saving the user's settings. Cookies do not cause any damage to the user's computer and do not contain viruses.

By changing the settings in your Internet browser, you can disable or restrict the transfer of cookies. Cookies that have already been stored can be deleted at any time. When deleting all cookies, already set objection cookies (opt-out cookies) are also deleted, so that you have to declare already declared objections again.

2.4 Statistical evaluations and creation of log files 

2.4.1 "Log files"

When users visit our website, our system automatically collects data and information from the computer system of the calling computer in so-called "log files" for each call. The following data ("technical information") is collected:

(1) Name of the accessed website
(2) File
(3) Date and time of access
(4) Amount of data transferred
(5) Message about successful retrieval
(6) Information about the browser type and version used
(7) The operating system of the user
(8) The user's Internet service provider
(9) The IP address of the users
(10) Websites from which the user's system accesses our Internet site
(11) Websites that are accessed by the user's system via our website.

The data is stored in the log files of our system. The IP address is pseudonymized within the scope of the legal provisions. This data is not stored together with other personal data of the user. All log file data is automatically deleted after 3 months.

The legal basis for the temporary storage of the data and the log files is our legitimate interest Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO.

The storage in log files is done to ensure the functionality of the website. We collect this technical information for purposes of (network) security (e.g. to combat cyber attacks), to better understand the needs of our users, to continuously improve our website and to enable the respective users to optimally deliver the website to their end device.

An evaluation of the data for marketing purposes does not take place.

2.4.2 Tracking tool "Matomo"

We use Matomo, an open source software for statistical analysis of user access. Matomo uses cookies, which allow an analysis of the use of the website by the users. The information generated by the cookie about the use of our website is stored on the provider's server in Germany. The IP address is pseudonymized immediately after processing and before it is stored.

If you do not agree with the storage and evaluation of this data from your visit, then you can simply omit the check mark at "Statistics" on your first visit to the page. If you agreed to the statistical analysis during your first visit to the site and would like to avoid it in the future, you can delete the cookies and the browser cache so that you are asked again when you visit the site again and simply do not check the "Statistics" box. 

3 Duration of data processing

The data will be stored as long as the user is a member of the Lufthansa Group Alumni Network.

If the registration process is not completed, the data entered during the registration will be deleted after 2 weeks. A new registration is possible at any time thereafter. 

In case of inactivity, your account will be deleted after 2 years and thus automatically all personal data. 

Users have the possibility to delete their alumni account at any time. With the confirmation of the deletion by the system, the personal data of the alumni will be automatically deleted in our systems. 
Insofar as the former employee has registered to participate in an offered event, this is no longer possible retroactively in an automated manner upon leaving the platform (e.g. requesting deletion of the account). If a deletion is nevertheless desired, please contact alumni.relations@dlh.de.

4 Right of objection according to Art. 21 DSGVO

You have the right to object at any time, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to the processing of personal data concerning you which is carried out on the basis of Art. 6(1)(e) or (f) DSGVO; this also applies to profiling based on these provisions.

The controller shall no longer process the personal data concerning you unless it can demonstrate compelling legitimate grounds for the processing which override your interests, rights and freedoms, or the processing serves the purpose of asserting, exercising or defending legal claims.

If the personal data concerning you is processed for the purposes of direct marketing, you have the right to object at any time to processing of the personal data concerning you for the purposes of such marketing; this also applies to profiling, insofar as it is related to such direct marketing.

If you object to the processing for direct marketing purposes, the personal data concerning you will no longer be processed for these purposes.

You have the possibility, in connection with the use of information society services, notwithstanding Directive 2002/58/EC, to exercise your right to object by means of automated procedures using technical specifications. 

5 Disclosure of personal data to third parties or permitted recipients

In order to provide you with our services, we may need to share your personal data with third parties within or outside the Lufthansa Group. These recipients can be categorized as follows:

 - Alumni program management and Alumni admin team of Lufthansa Global Business Services in Krakow, Poland.

 - Technical provider of the website (milch & zucker Talent Acquisition & Talent Management Company AG) 

 - Lufthansa Group employees from the various business units 

 

6 Your data protection rights

It is important to us to ensure that our processing procedures are fair and transparent. Therefore, it is important to us that every person can exercise the following rights in addition to the right to object if the respective legal requirements are met:

- Right to rectification, Art. 16 DSGVO
- Right to deletion ("right to be forgotten"), Art. 17 DSGVO
- Right to restriction of processing, Art. 18 DSGVO
- Right to data portability, Art. 20 DSGVO

7 Data security 

When your data is transferred to the Lufthansa Group, it is automatically encrypted. The precautions taken to secure data are always in line with the current state of the art.
